Tranströmer won the 2011 Nobel Prize for literature Tranströmer is one of the most beloved poets in Scandinavia, and considered the “best of letters” in Sweden Patty Crane is a seasoned translator of Tranströmer; Crane lived in Sweden for three years and worked closely with Tranströmer and his wife. Crane’s Tranströmer translations have been published in the American**Poetry Review, Blackbird, Guernica, Poetry Daily, and The New York Times. Crane published a full-length collection of Tranströmer translations, Bright Scythe, with Sarabande Press (2015). Tranströmer had connections with poets Robert Bly (friend, translator, worked to get Tranströmer’s work in the States) and Adunis, who accompanied Tranströmer on reading tours and introduced him to the Arab-speaking world.
