Oscar Wilde wrote a short story titled "The Canterville Ghost." The plot of one of his earliest published stories is about Mr. Otis and his family as they relocate into a castle despite several warnings that it is believed to be haunted. Once there, the family realizes that Sir Simon, a dead nobleman who murdered his wife, is truly haunting the castle. In contrast to Sir Simon's earlier victims, the Otis family starts victimizing and dismissing the spirit's capacity to instill dread in humans.
