Alternatively, as Chester Barnard put it, "the role of a leader, to be exact... is to reconcile opposing forces, impulses, interests, situations, views, and ideas." Take note of the term he used here: conditioning, not solution. Is this to say that we shouldn't merely label these issues so that managers don't run into typical roadblocks that lead to misunderstanding about how to manage? Managers do not need that solution; rather, they must improve their understanding of how to cope with the inevitable challenges.
